Product Description

The Nerve Plant is a compact tropical plant recognised for its richly coloured leaves and contrasting vein patterns. Different varieties may have white, pink or red veining, making it an excellent plant for adding colour and detail to a planted vivarium.

Its low, spreading growth makes it particularly useful around cork bark, rocks, branches and taller background plants. It stays relatively compact and can be trimmed to maintain a dense, bushy appearance.

Why It Is Good for Bioactive Vivariums

Nerve Plants are naturally suited to warm, humid environments and are commonly grown in terrariums. Their compact growth can provide low-level visual cover while helping create a natural tropical forest-floor appearance.

They are particularly useful for:

• Tropical and rainforest-style bioactive vivariums
• Adding colour beneath taller plants
• Creating low-level cover for smaller inhabitants
• Planting around cork bark, rocks and decorative wood
• Small and medium planted enclosures
• Humid terrariums and propagation displays

Basic Care Guide

Light:
Provide bright, filtered or indirect light. Avoid strong direct light, which may scorch the leaves.

Watering:
Keep the substrate lightly and consistently moist, but not saturated. Nerve Plants may wilt quickly when allowed to become too dry.

Humidity:
Moderate to high humidity is preferred. They perform particularly well in humid terrariums and planted tropical enclosures.

Temperature:
Keep warm and protect from cold draughts or sudden temperature changes.

Substrate:
Use a moisture-retentive but well-draining bioactive substrate. Do not allow the roots to sit in stagnant water.

Positioning:
Plant at the front or middle of the enclosure where its patterned leaves remain visible. Avoid positioning it directly beneath intense heat lamps.

Maintenance:
Pinch or trim the growing tips to keep the plant compact and bushy. Remove damaged or decaying leaves when required.

Important Information

Plant colour and vein pattern may vary depending on the variety available. Bio Forest recommends rinsing and inspecting all plants before adding them to an occupied enclosure. Suitability should always be assessed for the particular animal species, as larger or highly active animals may crush or uproot delicate plants.
