Magic Potion isopods are a striking captive-bred variety with pale white or translucent bodies, irregular black markings and bright yellow patches. Their unusual colouring makes them an attractive display species as well as a useful clean-up crew for suitable bioactive enclosures.

They help process decaying leaves, soft rotting wood and other organic material within the enclosure. They can be kept as a standalone colony or introduced into an appropriately prepared bioactive setup.

Basic care

Provide a nutritious soil-based substrate with plenty of leaf litter and pieces of decaying hardwood. The enclosure should have a moisture gradient, with one damp area and one comparatively dry area, rather than being completely wet. Good ventilation is important.

Offer a constant supply of leaf litter, a calcium source such as cuttlefish bone, and occasional supplementary vegetables or isopod food. Remove uneaten fresh food before it begins to spoil.
